"Number Lock" is a free feature for postpaid lines on the Verizon network which protects lines from being ported out by scammers. Once the feature is enabled for a line, the number cannot be ported to another carrier until the lock is removed.
Account Takeover Protection
T-Mobile has a similar feature called "Account Takeover Protection" which (when enabled) blocks unauthorized ports to another carrier. Once the feature is enabled for a line, the number cannot be ported to another carrier until it is removed.
